The Brisbane Courier, 19 June 1926
The death of Mr. Rody Ahearn, an old and highly respected resident of Rosevale, at the age of 81 years, took place at his residence, Lower Mount Walker, on May 20. Deceased was the third son of the late Mr. James Ahearn. On the day prior to his death he drove to Rosewood and back, accompanied by his wife. Next morning he arose at the usual hour, and after performing some light duties out-side he returned to the kitchen, where he collapsed and died almost immediately.

He was born in Hollyford, County Tipperary, Ireland, and together with his parents and other members of the family came to Queensland in the sailing ship Queen of the Colonies, which landed in Brisbane in April, 1863. He selected land in the early 70's on the Bremer River, which place he had worked as an agricultural and dairying property ever since. He was married in 1877 to Miss Mary Ryan, daughter, of the late Mr. Martin Ryan (Peak Mountain). During his residence of half a century in the Rosevale locality he was always noted for his hospitality and generosity.

He is survived by his widow and a grown-up family of three sons and six daughters. The sons are: Messrs. James and John, of Mt. Walker, and Rody, of the Railway Department (Brisbane). The daughters are: Mesdames E. Howe (Rosewood), J. Cannon (Ipswich), J. Donnelly (Esk), J. Ryan (Mt. Sylvia), W. Platz (Harrisville), and Miss J. Ahearn (Mt. Walker). There are fourteen grandchildren. Mr. Hugh Ahearn (Rosevale) and Mrs. M. Bourke (Grandchester) are brother and sister.

He was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters, Mesdames J. Toohey and J. Niell. The funeral took place from his late residence on May 21 to the Ipswich Cemetery. The ceremony at the graveside was performed by Rev. Father McKenna, of Rosewood.
