The death of Mr. John Ahern took place at Monkland, Gympie, on January 10. The deceased, who was 72 years of age, was born in County Tipperary, Ireland, on May 14, 1838. In 1858 he came to Australia, landing at Melbourne, and travelling thence to Bendigo and New Zealand. In 1868 he arrived at Gympie, where he spent the remainder of his life. He had followed mining and speculation, but latterly had taken to the land. He is survived by a widow, two sons, and three daughters.
