Mr. Terence Ahern, the well known railway contractor died at his residence, Shandon, Edmondstone-street, South Brisbane last night. Mr. Ahern, as a railway contractor had occupied a prominent position in both Queensland and New South Wales and his name is closely associated with some of the most extensive railway undertakings in these States. Born in Cork Ireland, in 1847 he arrived in Queensland in 1863 and for many years did pioneer work, cedar cutting and prospecting in North Queensland. One of his latest railway contracts was the construction of a section of the Gladstone-Rockhampton railway in which his partner was Mr. Thompson. Mr. Ahern was married in Gympie and is survived by his widow, five daughters, and three sons. The funeral, which will be conducted by K. M. Smith, undertaker, will take place at 2:30 this afternoon to the South Brisbane cemetery.
