The Brisbane Courier, 18 September 1893
Inspector John Ahern, who has been identified with the Police Force of this colony for many years, died at 5 o'clock on Saturday morning at his residence, Curphy-street, Bowen-terrace. Mr. Ahern was well known all over the colony, especially in the North, having joined the police as far back as 1804. He had been ailing for some little time, but latest reports regarding his condition indicated that he was progressing. His death therefore came somewhat as a shock to his friends. The funeral took place yesterday, and a large body of members of the Police Force and others attended.
