The Guardian, 12 April 1871
The Cork Herald announces the death of "probably the oldest man in the country"—Mr. Maurice Ahern, farmer, Five-mile Bridge, near Ballinahassig, and about six miles from Cork, at the age of 115. He had lived on that farm for 108 years, and retained all his faculties till within a fortnight of his death.
