The Irish Times, 4 July 1922
We regret to announce the death, which occurred at the Meath Hospital yesterday morning, of Lieutenant Daniel Ahearn, R.N., Chief Officer of Coastguards. Lieutenant Ahearn was on the staff of the Chief Naval Officer of Transport, Captain M. H. Clarke, and was a well-known figure in Dublin naval and shipping circles. A highly efficient and capable officer, he was at all times sympathetic and tactful in the discharge of his duties, and his genial disposition gained him many friends. The funeral to Glasnevin will take place from his residence, 56 Beechwood avenue, Ranelagh, at 9 o'clock to-morrow morning.
