| MOFFITOn the 12th inst., at his residence, No. 5,
Great George's-street, after a short illness, Thomas Moffit, Esq., aged 52
years. Funeral will leave for St. Joseph's Cemetery at 10 o'clock on Wednesday
morning. |
| AHERNOn the 12th inst., at his residence, Bridge-
street, in this city, Mr. Michael Ahern, of the Butter Exchange, eldest son of
Mr. Michael Ahern, Rae-street, Tralee, aged 29 years, a fond husband, an
affectionate father, and a true friend, deeply and deservedly regretted. May he
rest in peace. |

| The Empress of Austria paid a private visit to the Queen
and Royal Family at Windsor Castle yesterday afternoon. Her Imperial Highness
was received at the Sovereign's entrance by the Queen, Princess of Wales, and
Princess Beatrice. After remaining half an hour the Empress returned to London. |

| CONVERSIONOn the 24th December, Miss Jane M'Lean,
a member of the Mildmay Association of Female Workers in London, and lately a
Protestant Missionary in China, was received into the Catholic Church at
Shanghai. |

| In the County Crown Court on Saturday Mr. Justice Lawson
proceeded to sentence some prisoners who had been convicted. John Mansfield was
ordered to be imprisoned for nine months for manslaughter at Mitchelstown.
Nicholas White alias Bevan, pleaded guilty to receiving money under false
pretenses. This man was convicted of this offence at last assizes, and was
sentenced to two years' imprisonment with hard labour. The Grand Jury passed a
resolution expressing their approval of the manner in which Inspector
Druscovitch of Scotland Yard, conducted the case. |
