Saturday, Pat Mahon, Esq., of Newpark committed to Ennis Jail a man named John Beatty for offering for sale eight lambs, the brands on which were defaced and the wool much covered with Red Oaker, which appeared as done intentionally to prevent their being recognised. He says he lives at Headford in the county of Galway. Mr. Mahon humanely sent the lambs to one of his fields to prevent expense. The fellow yesterday sent to this active and intelligent magistrate from the prison, a letter signed Michael Spellissy, giving him an excellent character, which however could not have been written ten minutes, as the wafer was moist ; and the letter in which it was enclosed, appears to have been written by the same person.
