Ennis Chronicle August 28 1811
Last Sunday, a consequence of extraordinary exertion at a hurley match, by which
it is presumed a blood vessel must have been ruptured. Patrick Moran, of
Kilbrickane feeling himself exhausted retired a few paces from the scene of
contest and had scarcely placed himself in a recumbent position when he expired.
An inquest held on the body on Monday by Francis O'Meara, Esq., Coroner and the
following verdict returned " Patrick Moran came by his death in consequence
of having used violent exertion in hurling and jostling on Sunday the 25th day
of August at Knockinane."
